Mr. John Gilmour BDS. FGDP.General Dental Practitioner
Staffs
John Gilmour is a GDP working in a busy NHS practice in South Staffordshire, and has been involved with Bridge since 2000. He is currently undertaking an investigation into job satisfaction among general dental practitioners.
“ I joined BRIDGE to learn more about research with relevance to general practice. I have been involved in data collection for several practice based research projects, and am currently undertaking my own project with help from other group members and the co-ordinators.
Initially, I was apprehensive about joining such a group. However, it soon became apparent that the meetings were run in a relaxed atmosphere, and anyone can contribute whatever time they feel is appropriate. If anyone is unsure about attending a meeting, please feel free to contact me.”

Peter Thornley BDS MFGDP MGDS FFGDPPeter and his wife run a mixed general practice, and was a founder member of Bridge. He was until recently a part-time lecturer at the Dental School but has given that up to devote more time to his postgraduate educational committments, which include being an examiner for the MGDS exam. He has completed a project looking at rectangular collimation and its effects on the quality of radiographs taken in practice, and the results of this have suggested further areas of investigation which he is currently pursuing with BRIDGE.
"I really enjoy BRIDGE meetings and have found them very useful. I want to provide the best evidence based dentistry for my patients. The combination of experienced "wet fingered" dentists, who work in the real world, with the research facilities and experience of one of our foremost Universities is a formula for success. Every BRIDGE meeting has been thought provoking and challenging, and has lead to real improvements in my clinical practice."
